Meet Kevin

Kevin, Erica, and daughter Erin.

Kevin Caneco came to Delaware via the military. After serving over 8 years in the active duty Army, Kevin and his wife Erica, along with their daughter Erin and dog Dexter put down roots in Middletown. Kevin currently still serves in the Delaware National Guard and attends Delaware Law School on the GI Bill.

While in the Army, Kevin served in a variety of leadership positions to include Platoon Leader in Afghanistan, Company Executive Officer in Hawaii, and Company Commander in the storied 101st Airborne Division at FT. Campbell, KY to name a few. At a young age of 25 Kevin served in Afghanistan where he learned first hand the importance of listening to others, leading by example and the beautiful diversity brings to our nation. Kevin’s other most rewarding job was when he served as a Company Commander in the 101st Airborne Division. As Commander, Kevin was tasked with running a company of over 100 Soldiers responsible for their welfare, training, and safety along with managing a budget of over 25 million dollars worth of equipment.

Kevin’s last assignment was working with the 20th CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Nuclear, Radiological, Explosives) Command in Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD where he helped manage maintenance operations of a global command.

Since entering law school, Kevin has been actively involved in his community. Kevin is a member of the VFW Post 3792 where he serves as the Post Judge Advocate, the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 2 and serves as a volunteer with the Travis Manion Foundation, a volunteer organization that has military veterans speak to students about leadership and character traits. Kevin also serves on the Public Advisory Committee of the Wilmington Area Planning Council as a representative of Southern New Castle County.

Kevin has also been active in local politics. Kevin serves as Secretary of the 9th Democratic RD and has partnered with organizations like Delaware United, Network Delaware and the ACLU Campaign for Smart Justice on a number of important issues like addressing criminal justice reform. From his own experiences as a young man with the justice system, Kevin changed his life and realized 2nd chances are the cornerstone of a successful life. At Delaware Law School, Kevin launched and is now President of the American Constitution Society Chapter at his school. ACS is one of the most leading progressive organizations for law students in the nation. Kevin is also a proud member of the Military Law Society.

When not out advocating, studying or working Kevin enjoys time most with his family. His daughter Erin, 3, attends Faith Lutheran Pre School in Red Lion and his wife Erica works at a local restaurant in Middletown. Kevin was raised in New York where his dad served over 30 years in the NYPD and his mom worked as a nurse. Kevin was raised with middle-class values and his goal is to ensure the best, most affordable, well-functioning county in the country for all of our families.
